== Treasurer Report for Fiscal Year 2018 ==

The bylaws[1] of the X.Org Foundation provide a duty of the Treasurer to
produce an annual financial report, approved by the Board, within 60
days of the end of the fiscal year. The fiscal year is defined as
ending on the 31st day of December in each year.

X.Org is a member of Software in the Public Interest (SPI), which
handles most aspects of the Foundation's financial management. After
a delay in providing treasurer reports, they posted last year's[2] on
March 26th, 2019.

== Financial Records ==

The X.Org Board maintains financial books using the Ledger-CLI program,
which is used for its own record keeping and to shadow SPI's data. The
tabulated finances above are directly generated from X.Org's Ledger, and
thus is an accurate reflection of the state of our own books.

In late 2018, SPI was not providing treasurer updates, so X.Org's
shadow ledger updates were delayed until past the transfer of the
treasurer role from Bryce to Taylor and then to Eric, leading to
delays in producing the report so that Eric could comb the email
archives to produce an accurate summary for X.Org. Eric has requested
per-transaction information from SPI to reduce the overhead of this
process in the future, though this is not yet resolved. SPI is
producing monthly reports again, so our books are back to being
updated regularly and will hopefully enable an on-time treasurer's
report next year.

As an example of the issue of missing per-transaction information from
SPI is the "Unknown Outreach" expense, which was recorded in July in
SPI's records. The current board doesn't recall anything approved in
July, nor have Eric or Daniel found anything in the email archives
about it.

== Fundraising ==

The efforts by Daniel Vetter to find corporate sponsorship for XDC
were successful, allowing the board to approve more XDC travel
sponsorships. Given the success this year and our stable financial
situation, the board approved extending XDC travel sponsorship even
more next year (to be announced shortly).

An unknown number of small donations were received through SPI's
Click&Pledge service, as well as one large donation from a regular
corporate donor and another from Google for our participation in
Google Summer of Code.

== Funded Activities ==

The primary expenditures for the project in 2018 were for the X
Developers' Conference held in A Coruña. The X.Org Foundation
sponsored travel expenses for 6 people this year, a GSOC student, an
Outreachy intern, 3 other community members, and a regular press
reporter.

The other major expense was the successful EVOC project working on
updating driconf.

X.Org also sponsored amenities at XDC 2018. Those were settled
against Igalia's sponsoring commitment and don't appear directly in
the budget.

== Asset Transfer ==

The asset transfer noted in last year's treasurer report[3] was never
fully completed ($33000 out of $33391.53 transferred) -- SPI didn't
get the last small check, and it was deemed not worth the foundation's
time trying to get the former controller of the BofA account to get a
replacement check written for a closed account.
