== Treasurer’s Report for Fiscal Year 2022 ==
The bylaws of the X.Org Foundation provide a duty of the Treasurer to
produce an annual financial report, approved by the Board, within 60 days
of the end of the fiscal year. The fiscal year is defined as ending on the
31st day of December in each year.
This is, once again, long after that date. The failure can not be blamed
on SPI this year, it is purely my own. Luckily, Arkadiusz Hiler has
stepped in to be X.Org treasurer / financial liaison going forward, as I
have been burned out for some time.
== XDC ==
XDC 2022 was hybrid virtual/in-person, with low operating costs (10k of
sponsored travel, 2k of venue after the split with codeweavers). With the
sponsorships it brought in, that leaves a lot of money for our general
usage.
== Cloud hosting ==
The cloud hosting costs increased again, almost 27k versus last year’s
17k. Luckily we could easily absorb this within our budget, thanks to
ongoing XDC sponsorships. I believe there is work in progress by
freedesktop.org admins to get the last major chunk of paid hosting on GCE
moved over to the cluster on Equinix, which should effectively remove this
line item.
However, cloud hosting remains the biggest risk to us we have even if we
complete this – we don’t have ongoing contacts with Equinix or a sense of
just how much and how long they are willing to sponsor us. Without this
sponsorship, our costs would be far above anything we’ve seen so far. We
should probably seek diversity in gitlab hosting sponsorships, to ensure
that a change by Equinix is not a sudden impact to our ability to develop
software.
