== Treasurer’s Report for Fiscal Year 2020 ==

The bylaws[1] of the X.Org Foundation provide a duty of the Treasurer
to produce an annual financial report, approved by the Board, within
60 days of the end of the fiscal year. The fiscal year is defined as
ending on the 31st day of December in each year.

Obviously, this is long after that date. Manasi had stepped in as
treasurer in 2019, but found she didn’t have the time for all the
duties, and Emma has stepped in recently to take on the role again.

== Financial Records ==

X.Org in the past has maintained financial books using the Ledger-CLI
program, which was used for its own record keeping and to shadow SPI's
data[2]. However, SPI’s reports don’t have the data we really needed
to cross-check, and often come out late (for example, as of this
writing in December 2021, SPI has only published up to June 2021 which
is missing most of the XDC activity). This caused the X.Org treasurer
to always be running behind on their ledger work, and have a hard time
catching up.

Given that once we did cross-check our books with SPI’s, we only found
errors and misunderstandings on our part, and due to the time cost in
data entry for the treasurer, X.Org voted in September[3] to drop our
internal books in favor of using SPI’s directly. Given that we never
synced the internal ledger for 2020, this report is generated from
SPI’s year-end data.

== Cloud hosting ==

This year saw our cloud hosting costs for freedesktop.org gitlab
continue to increase, exceeding XDC in our primary expenditures.
Multiple developers coordinated to reduce the cloud services loads,
but that mostly helped keep things stable as projects rapidly
increased their automated testing coverage with gitlab CI.
Ultimately, the sitewranglers team began a large effort to transition
off of GCE and to packet.net (now Equinix), which has graciously
sponsored our usage there. That work was not completed in 2020 and
hosting was the largest budget risk we saw for the future of the
organization.

== XDC expenditures ==

Most of the XDC expenditures here are actually from Collabora (XDC
2019 organizer)’s invoice arriving in January, as well as some
remaining travel reimbursements from that event.

Given COVID-19, XDC 2020 was switched to be a virtual conference. We
thus didn’t have the usual venue, dinner, and sponsored travel
expenses we typically do. This was expected to be a temporary
adjustment for the year, so we continued with sponsor organizing as
usual.

== XDC Sponsorship ==

This year saw income from XDC sponsorship increase again, thanks to
the efforts of Daniel Vetter to coordinate sponsorships.

As a result, we ended the year with a bit more money on the books than
we started with, though the cloud hosting situation was looking risky
for the future if we don’t keep finding new sponsors or manage to
complete the Equinix transition, both of which depend on volunteer
contributions.
